The Web3D Consortium is happy to release the X3D4 Committee Draft (CD) Specification which is functionally complete and supported by multiple implementations.  Advanced new capabilities include HTML5 integration, Khronos glTF model rendering, and high-fidelity Web Audio.

• On 17 May 2021, ISO/IEC Joint Technical Committee (JTC)1 Standards Committee (SC) 24 national body members voted to approve renewal of X3D4 Architecture with next stage being Committee Draft (CD).  Web3D Consortium efforts to apply whitespace corrections and editorial refinements continue on the X3D4 Committee Draft (CD1) Specification (also .zip).

• On 8 FEB 2021, the  X3D4 Committee Draft (CD) Specification (also .zip) was submitted by the Web3D Consortium to International Standards Organization (ISO)/International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), Joint Technical Committee (JTC) 1, Standards Committee (SC24) for review and balloting by national bodies (such as INCITS H3 representing the U.S. national standards body).

• On 16 December 2020, the Web3D Consortium released X3D4 Working Draft Revision 3 (also .zip) for review comments and ballot prior to ISO submission. This document now shows all changes from X3D3.3 International Standard. Prior to completion, Web3D Consortium members were afforded the opportunity to formally submit comments on this document for consideration by the Board of Directors and the X3D Working Group.

• On 21 December 2020, [x3d-public] X3D4 Architecture validation and implementation update, with thanks announcement provided details on numerous supporting assets, also recognizing numerous key contributors.

• Previous Revision 2 release was reviewed satisfactorily by X3D Working Group November 2020 for Web3D 2020 Conference.

• Initial public release was reviewed satisfactorily by X3D Working Group 31 July 2020 for SIGGRAPH Conference, together with overview presentation.
