Join the Web3D Consortium

The Web3D Consortium is a non-profit group open to industry, academic, government and individual members.

Founded in 1997, we are an International, non-profit, member-funded, industry standards development organization. We develop and maintain royalty-free ISO standards for web-based 3D graphics. Our standard X3D (Extensible 3D) originated from VRML and is available in XML, Compressed Binary, and classic VRML formats. X3D is Web ready and supports wide range of applications. X3D is open, royalty free, extensible, interoperable, and runs on all platforms including desktops, tablets, and phones. Our members are from business, academia, government and the military.

Membership provides real benefits for 3D graphics communication, networking, leadership, marketing, and specification development.

The Web3D Consortium is committed to the creation and deployment of open, royalty-free standards that enable the communication of real-time 3D across applications, networks, and XML web services.

  • All Consortium members are empowered to participate in Consortium Working Groups and contribute to Consortium specifications before public deployment.
  • The Consortium works closely with the International Standards Organization (ISO), Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC), World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), Health Level 7 (HL7), Metaverse Standards Forum, and other standardization bodies to maximize both interoperability and market opportunities for its membership.
  • Members are also able to network with leading world-wide experts in Web3D technology to accelerate the delivery of their cutting-edge 3D platforms and applications. Web3D Consortium Recent Report
