The Web3D Consortium participation in the 9th AR Standards Community Meeting will feature X3D extensions for AR, 3D compression, and X3D futures. The Augmented Reality Working Group is working on a proposal to extend X3D to support augmented and mixed reality visualization (details). The X3D Working Group has a current open Request for Contribution for Binary Compression (details) and is also developing plans for the future of X3D, including HTML5/DOM integration and CSS support.
