The Web3D Consotium will showcase innovative, open standards based 3D systems at the Engage virtual worlds show(booth #3) in San Jose, California September 23-24, 2009. They will be showing Planet 9’s RayGun the first X3D based multi-user platform for the iPhone and Bitmanagement’s BS Collaborate a multi-user server where you can integrate your database and create multi-user environments using both Network Sensor Node and Distributed Interactive Simulation. An interactive visual and haptic collaboration in virtual space using X3D/VRML server-client software will also be demonstrated. While at the booth, conference attendees can pick up their own X3D Showcase DVD packed with free resources that will introduce them to X3D. Explore these resources and see how X3D is ideal for your real-time 3D graphics needs.
The Web 3D Consortium has long fostered open standards for 3D on the Web and interoperability between other open platforms (OGC, MPEG 4, HTML 5). They have produced standards for Avatar Standardization (H-Anim) and Multi-user Shared State (Network Sensor Node) both of which have been adopted by leading 3D viewer makers such as Bitmanagement, Fraunhofer IGD, Octaga and Yumetech.
The Consortium’s goal is to develop and offer a full featured, multi-user platform specification based on open standards, by leveraging other open initiatives such as XMPP/OpenFire) (for chat), PostGISql /MySQL (for databases) and OGC’s Geoserver (for geo-located data). To achieve this, the Web 3D Consortium is announcing a call for participation to assist in developing the “last mile” of standards focused on open chat and server technologies. To join, please visit us at: http://web3d.org/membership/join. All members are empowered to participate in Consortium Working Groups, network with leading Web3D technologists, and contribute to the X3D specification. Join the Web3D Consortium and become a part of this evolving standard for 3D systems. Many technologies grow exponentially due to hype and then fall into disuse. X3D remains the most widely used standard for the implementation of high-integrity, high-capability and high-data value 3D systems. The applications and technologies showcased at the conference are evidence of the healthy ecology that continues to evolve and stabilize into international standards. Descriptions of recent projects using X3D are available at http://www.web3d.org/casestudies.
