IE is totally directX and any html browser for unix or mac must be OGL-based, I would think. What else could be?

Rendering to a framebuffer (BitBlt) wouldn't be OGL would it? I don't know the current IE, but wouldn't it be based on GDI? If they were based on DirectX and OpenGL, wouldn't we see 3D in the browsers now w/ o a bunch of plugins? I understand that under all of this, there must be some interface to the graphics card. Only more recent versions of Java integrate Swing with OpenGL.
