The Web3D
Consortium welcomes its first Web3D Fellow Byounghyun
Yoo, a post-doctoral research fellow of the Modeling, Virtual Environments
and Simulation (MOVES) Institute at
the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey California since 2007. Before he joined
the MOVES group, Byounghyun Yoo was a research fellow at the iCAD
laboratory, Department of Mechanical Engineering at KAIST (Korea Advanced
Institute of Science and Technology). The principal focus of his research has
been fusion of Geographical Information System and Virtual Reality. During his
MS degree he developed a geometric modeling kernel for a 3D CAD system, and an
image-based technique for modeling large-scale urban environments using aerial
photographs and digital maps as part of his doctoral dissertation. He was also
engaged in the development of various virtual reality simulators including two
bicycle VR simulators, a sports helicopter simulator and two multi-sensory VR
effects systems. He also contributed to the construction of virtual environment
from GIS data for these simulators. As a Web3D fellow
Byounghyun Yoo is working on scientific and engineering challenges that are
particularly important for advancing the X3D standard and works closely with
the X3D Earth Working Group. His
current duties include X3D Earth webmaster where this ongoing research in the
following work is reported and published. ·
Finding
X3D scene graph pattern for improved X3D GeoLOD tiles ·
Improving
the current GeoLOD architecture for fast tracking of GeoLOD tiles ·
Optimizing
projection and subdivision method for X3D Earth global implementation ·
Designing
and implementing server-side 3D graphics architecture for X3D Earth globe ·
Creating
and deploying large-scale X3D terrain model The Web3D Consortium board of directors and members welcome Byounghyun
Yoo and look forward to working with him towards the development of the
X3D standard. For more information on our Web3D Fellow Program please visit http://www.web3d.org/about/fellowship Thanks! Anita ---
