[x3d-public] Flux Inline & Anchor nodes. was; Migrating ROL to X3D: Nyet.
I have also tried to inline simple X3D scenes in Flux with
no-go, but I'm still hoping. One thing to watch for is the
X3D profile of the inline scene, as the feature set used in
the inline must be included in the main scene. Using <X3D
profile='Full' > in the main scene should take care of that
buy I haven't had any success with it so far.
I am also hitting another but similar issue, perhaps related
to the above, this time involving the Anchor node. The only
way I have found to link an X3D scene from an X3D scene is
to load it through an HTML page and an Object or Embed tag
loading the X3D scene. Otherwise the X3D document is simply
represented as text in the browser window. I have not been
able to load an X3D scene directly using Flux Player v. 2.0
and MS IE v. 7.0
Finally, while on the subject, the Anchor node
parameter='target=_new' (or variations of it) doesn't seem
to work either. I would like to load linked scenes in new
browser windows and I might have to use a javascript work
around for this, which creates other problems.
The AjaX3D stuff and the Google Ajax Search API are working
great in Flux though, but I'm hitting serious snags with the
above linking problems to continue this project. I have
considered BS Contact but it didn't seem to be ready for
this either.
Project VRGOO stalled...??? (not for long I hope) Did anyone
actually get any of the above to work, or is it just me???
Working on the open source Flux can be an option but, if my
experience with Contact is any indication, fixes could take
a long time before making it to distribution.
Cheers,
Lauren

It is probably errors in the inlines. Rick Kimball pointed
out some, so
before I upload the new version, I'm going on another
scrubbing campaign.
Contact is apparently more forgiving. I've added a lot of
features since
the last release of ROL so I have to go back and check. One
of the image
editors appears to be uppercasing some file extensions, and
I need to find
all of those. I've added more sound, sequenced these with
scripts, and
other kinds of magic munging.

In other words exactly what I discovered, Flux Studio
itself is great. Flux viewer however is less than perfect
for some content and almost useless as an general purpose
vrml/x3d plugin.
Interesting that Inlines didn't work, given that Flux
Studio itself can create those. Perhaps its something in
the other .wrls it doesn't like.
