Have you tried renamed .kmz to .zip, .gzip, .lha, .7z etc. in
case .kmz proves to be a classic archive (even better would be if it contains
some xml and jpg etc. media assets in the archive)?
I guess third party
tools will release importers and people will write converters for .kmz
eventually if it becomes popular (also not sure if Google have published or plan
to publish info on that file format)
