Re: [x3d-public] Re: [www-vrml] FBX

Filmbox has been around for quite a while. It has impressively high speed rendering, even with many polygons, and cool automation capabilities, including linking up with bvh-format animation programs, and some physics.

I did some work a while back using it for a realtime performance with a dancer rigged up in a data suit. She danced a live performance in a complex world, via Filmbox. Try doing that in any current VRML/X3D viewer!

It is a few years ago now, so I can't clearly remember the sequence, but I used lparser to make a bunch of plants in VRML, which I then pruned down in Chisel, then converted to Lightwave3d format where I further pruned and tweaked the plants. I created some buildings and some land in Lightwave too. All this was assembled then imported to Filmbox where the performance took place in realtime. We used library avatars for the dancer because we ran out of time.

It was an interesting project. I've never used Filmbox since, because I couldn't afford it. Now that it is free I might take another look.

Cheers,
