RE: [www-vrml] combining textures and materials

Hi Sergey, Kay and list,

yup, it's the solution Kay wrote:
PHP can use a png, gif, jpg -lib, java too, it is possible
to compute the final image with it by parameters given. Even if the 'layer' idea would give a bit more easy (vrml-)interactive manipulation posibilities.

The very next idea is that the image can changed(reloaded) inside the vrml(/x3d) on the fly (in bxx ok, guess in cortona too).
This would be the solution on my terrain-editor, where I do 'plant'
trees and then also could 'set' shaddows on the ground. Great!

The only hook is that such an image to load would be big, cause I use one image repeated on a 33x33 grid (5m dx,dy) yet.

But this could be solved if I use a java-applet that could talk to a vrml,
no need for a texture load then anymore.

nice idea!

Maybe the effect of combining texture and color can be achieved in
some other way? For example, you can illuminate the surface with a coloured
picture by a DirectionalLight with varying color. For the light not to
illuminate other geometry, it can be placed into a Group together with the
picture. And all other geometry hm... into an other Group, so that other
lights don't disturb the color.
