You don't need shaders for this. And you don't need
shaders for shadows either.
Has the Dynamic Texturing thingie made into AMD-1?
BTW is 3D-Texturing a valid identifier?
Besides Shadows are not part of AMD-1 (I think). This
has been discussed extensively on the shaders mailing
list.
Shadows are a tricky one since there are plenty of
ways of implementing them. You can use shaders to
accelerate them but if you want to allow people to use
shaders in X3D to implement them on their own is a
topic for discussion.
The Shaders component will allow you to do bump
mapping, some procedural textures, for example. It
will give you some eye candy but to me it still falls
short.
