In fact my reason for trusting MS more than Apple, IBM and Sun, is that
Apple and IBM threw away OpenDoc and Sun was making too many hyped promises
it couldn't keep in time.

Whereas if MS releases a technology/product (not counting alpha/beta or
experimental stuff in that), they strive to keep supporting it as it is or
emulating it at future products. My 1989-era DOS programs still play OK for
example.

But that's just personal belief and feeling that I got out from my
experiences in this field. Each one grows different mental models about the
same things based on different experiences or even small variations of
perception of a common fact/experience. And such mental models affect future
processing of percepted information thus reinforcing those mental model
differences (a chicken and egg problem that is)

greetings to all,
George
