RE: [www-vrml] Tim BL Is Baffled, Too

Hi Neil,

Good to hear from you!

Trust me, this not personal. This is my attempt to keep the revisionist from rewriting history. Since 1998, you have said pretty much the same thing—we NEED companies. But then we get large companies like Intel (I have listed many others) at the table and interested in the work of the Consortium and then suddenly they are gone and all the same people remain making inuindo about those who can’t play well with others.

This has been a law of diminishing returns since 2000.

I still have every intention of using Web3D technologies and if X3D ever matures or secures larger players then I will figure out a way to use it in my projects.

I appreciate Allan’s email. It was a very clear explaination of where we are and of what is happening—including the part about having felt left out in the past.

Best wishes,

Linda

Please - don't make things personal.   The bigger point is we NEED companies to "make a business model out of writing standards".  We NEED companies to be engaged to develop great products on the back of our standards.  Our problem is we don't have ENOUGH companies that care to do this - goes back to my earlier before the chasm comments - but we CAN move froward through an understand of at what stage this market is at..
