Re: [www-vrml] Tim BL Is Baffled, Too

Hi George,

Thanks George. I appreciate that, and might take you up on it up at some point, however just now I think I'll be trying to develop my own non-X3D language. However I'll still work on VRML (and X3D if I can get it to work). If I change my mind about X3D I might even make an XML version of my language... though, realistically I think it is more likely to look and act like a real-time POV-Ray.

Jeff Sostein is on a similar path with XVRML (http://xvrml.net/)

Yes, I must look in on Jeff's effort again.

DirectX / Direct3D SDK from MSDN has some nice "fur" shader example

I intentionally stay away from DirectX/Direct3D because it is the opposite of cross-platform, no matter how good it is. And I think Microsoft will run out of steam at some point. They've been running on a karma deficit for years and you can't alienate that many people without having bad results. CP/M was the biggest operating system in the world and it disappeared overnight. IBM were the biggest, most powerful computer company in the world and they crashed and burned quite suddenly. There are already many people turning away from MS. I don't want to be locked into a proprietary technology when they crash.
