RE: [www-vrml] Tim BL Is Baffled, Too

There definitely are upticks in the use
of Linux. We do see RFIs that include
Linux. So far, we don't see RFPs that do.
Firefox has never been requested. As far
as how much market share MS is losing,
so far it has not amounted to more than
a few points and even then, the IE browser
is still on the desktop of most of these
because Windows Update doesn't work
without it.

I don't object to any company making
money, or any individual for that matter.
I object to someone saying they can't
make money and not try to sell to where
the market is because that's not smart
business.

Actually m$ ie is loosing a lot of the market share to other browsers

Now you didn't say it directly but your wording leads one to conclude you
don't want to spend any time on the other '10%' market areas, which of
course, as you know, your just throwing numbers out, no real stats of any
sorts

More and more people and switching to linux and unix , as well as just to
firefox/mozilla

Why? because microsoft is insecure and they can be trusted to secure their
own desktop.

More and more countries and companies are switching to linux , for the cost
effectiveness and security

So if one of those companies or countries need an x3d solution what would
you tell them? Move to M$?

As someone else stated , html works fine across all platforms

What can the consortium do to ensure vrml/x3d does the same?

Its not rocket science , but championing microsoft isnt the answer

.net might not be the answer either, sure it works for now, but what about
in 5 years? When MS add another layer of complexity to their programming
schemes, its all about them making more money, the easiest way to do this is
to make another programming api a middle man tier

Something that stands in the way but doesn't effect the bottom line

Would you like fries with that?

The amount of money generated by introducing a middle man program api is
astounding, think about how much money M$ is making in training and
softwares , just to get people on to .net/c#
