Interactive web-based 3D technologies are leading the development of new opportunities in health, geospatial, and defense. These technologies provide an interactive real-time 3D solution that allows dispersed groups to interactively address real-world issues. Virginia Tech and Web3D Consortium are presenting demonstrations, discussions, and opportunities of emerging Web3D technologies.

Dr. Nicholas Polys, President of Web3D Consortum presents 3D models

Below are the presentations given at the event at the Virginia Tech Research Center in Arlington Virginia. The event was initiated to host Web3D and OGC members and attendees of OGC's Technical Committee meeting and included government representatives, DC SIGGRAPH members and other selected guests. [original meeting announcement]

Online 3D Visualization for 3D BIM Collaboration. [Presentation]
Next-generation Spatial Data Infrastructures
Peter Sforza, CGIT (VT)
We will show how new frontiers of access and analysis can be enabled through the adoption and improvement of standards and best practices. CGIT Web data and decision support applications will be presented from agricultural modeling and simulation, to broadband tools, to 3D Blacksburg & solar suitability. [Presentation]
STOQS Spatial Temporal Oceanographic Query System
Mike McCann, MBARI
STOQS (Spatial Temporal Oceanographic Query System) integrates X3D in a data-driven web application. STOQS is a geospatial database web application designed for providing efficient access to in situ oceanographic measurement data. Web3D technology provides 3D geospatial data visualization capability. [Presentation]

CAD X3D next steps: export applications, 3D Printing for Additive Manufacturing and AEC/BIM
Don Brutzman, Naval Postgraduate School
The CAD X3D Working Group is exporting light-weight structured X3D models from CAD models to support Web applications such as training and maintenance. Next steps include mappings to support 3D Printing for Additive Manufacturing that preserve metadata of interest. New activity is also emerging with Architecture Engineering Construction (AEC) and Building Information Modeling/Management (BIM).
SPIDERS3D: Navy port and pier visualization worldwide
Alex Viana, U.S. Navy
The Naval Facilities Command (NAVFAC) has X3D models for every port, pier and piling that Navy ships visit worldwide. A unique collaboration tool called Telestrator allows viewpoint sharing and annotation for remote world-wide collaboration across the Navy. [Presentation]
X3D Progress Report
Don Brutzman, Naval Postgraduate School
