Octaga chosen by Shell to deliver 3D real-time solutions for Ormen Lange.
Oslo, - October 8, 2007 Shell has chosen Octaga Enterprise from Octaga AS as real-time 3D visualization solution for the Ormen Lange Processing Plant in Nyhamna. Octaga was chosen due to the ability to stream large CAD models combined with intuitive navigation and realistic visualization. The Octaga Enterprise Suite will be used by personnel for maintenance, operation, training, planning and collaboration at Ormen Lange Nyhamna Processing Plant in Aukra and Kristiansund.
The Octaga Enterprise Suite supports automatic updates of the 3D model of the Ormen Lange Plant. Modifications in the plant design made by design engineers will be automatically made available, and ready to be streamed to the personnel engaged in running the plant, which represent a huge cost saving.
All objects shown in the viewing solution can be linked to external systems to enable retrieval of critical data for the operators.
With Octaga Enterprise, Shell personnel get a state-of-the-art interactive 3D viewing system that supports advanced navigation, high quality visualization, simulation and collaboration including red-lining and viewpoint sharing. The tool makes it possible to collaborate efficiently on the operation of the plant between Nyhamna and other sites.
Viewing Ormen Lange in an interactive 3D environment will improve the users knowledge of the plant, allow more effective communication and make the work more enjoyable!

About Shell and the Ormen Lange Project:
The Ormen Lange field is located in the Norwegian Sea, 120 kilometres north west of the coast of MҸre, Mid-Norway. It is Norways largest gas field, and was proven through drilling by Norsk Hydro in 1997. The reservoir is around 40 kilometres long and eight kilometres wide, approximately 3000 metres below the surface of the sea. Hydro is operator and responsible for the planning and development of Ormen Lange. Shell will take over as operator 30th of November 2007. Shell will also be responsible for drilling of the production wells.
The field will be developed with seabed installations at depths of between 800 and 1100 metres, and will be linked to a processing plant on land at Nyhamna in Aukra municipality. The gas will from there be exported to Easington on the east coast of England trough a 1200 kilometer long export-pipeline. When it reaches full production, the field will meet 20 percent of the UK demand for gas.
