Octaga to develop plug-in for Acrobat that will extend interactive 3D visualization and augmented r

Octaga in conjunction with Yumetch, will develop an X3D plug-in for Adobe Acrobat and Acrobat Reader so that any user will be able to read and interact with 3D visualizations embedded in a PDF document. This will enable engineering, technical publishing and creative professionals to more quickly and cost-effectively collaborate on projects that require 3D, audio, and video.

Yumetech releases the Version 1.0 of the Xj3D Source Code

Yumetech, Inc., in conjunction with the Web3D Consortium, announced the release of Version 1.0 of the Xj3D Toolkit at the Web3D Symposium held in Columbia, MD (April 18-21). Version 1.0 implements the Immersive Profile of the Extensible 3D (X3D) Specification: an ISO approved (ISO/IEC 19776) open standard for creating real-time 3D content. This profile is targeted towards implementing immersive virtual worlds with complete navigational and environmental sensor control.

Web3D Consortium Announces X3D Specification Approved as ISO International Standard

The X3D specification has been approved by the International Standards Organization (ISO) as International Standard ISO/IEC 19775 with formal publication expected in October 2004. This specification defines the core technical capabilities of the X3D runtime system and delivery mechanism for 3D content and applications running on a network. X3D supports several file format encodings and programming languages, providing unsurpassed interoperability for 3D data and significant flexibility in manipulating, communicating and displaying scenes in real time.

Web3D Consortium Announces X3D Compressed Binary Encoding Initiative

The X3D Binary Format working group is chartered to develop both an encoding of X3D to enable advanced compression of 3D data to shorten the transmission time of models and scenes across a network and a data encryption scheme to protect sensitive model information. The working group is open to any member of the Web3D Consortium and has already received significant contributions, including patented, advanced geometry compression technology from Sun. X3D's binary format will be an open, royalty-free specification that is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2005.

Web3D Consortium announces CAD Distillation Format (CDF)

The Web3D Consortium today has completed the first working draft of the CAD Distillation Format (CDF) specification - an open, royalty-free file format to distill the essential elements of complex CAD and architectural data for use throughout an enterprise. A second working draft of the CDF specification will be available this summer which will enable CDF with programmable shaders and a compressed binary format to support rapid delivery and content protection.

MPEG & Web3D complete MPEG-4 X3D Interactive Profile

The X3D Interactive Profile has been adopted by MPEG to bring state-of-the-art, X3D-based, interactive 3D graphics to the MPEG-4 multimedia standard. The X3D Interactive profile is now a part of the ISO/IEC 14496 specification that will formally become an International Standard in January 2005.

Speakers from Sun Microsystems and US Navy to keynote Web3D 2004 Symposium

Doug Twilleager, Senior Manager of Graphics & Media and Chief Architect of Game Technologies Group at Sun Microsystems, and Captain Chris Gunderson, Commanding Officer of the US Navy's Fleet Numerical Oceanographic & Meteorological Center (FNMOC) will be the keynote speakers for the Ninth Annual Web3D Symposium at the Monterey Marriott Hotel in Monterey, California on April 5-8 2004. The Symposium is organized as two days of detailed tutorials, followed by two days of keynote, papers and exhibits.
