Telemedicine and Advanced Technology and Research Center Grant Awarded to Web3D Consortium

The Web3D Consortium announced that the Telemedicine and Advanced Technology and Research Center (http://www.tatrc.org), part of the U.S. Army Medical Research and Material Command (USAMRMC), has awarded the Consortium a second round of funding totaling $150,000 for the "Development of an Amendment to X3D to Create a Standard Specification of Medical Image Volume Rendering, Segmentation and Registration."

Web3D Consortium X3D Revision to add Physics, Particle Systems, UI Enhancements, Realistic Motion

The X3D Revision submitted to the ISO for approval represents a significant advance in layering & overlays, physics, particle systems, smooth motion, and picking, enabling 3D simulations and web applications to implement features traditionally found only in high-level gaming systems. All features have been tested in real world applications, and been reviewed by hundreds of developers, before being incorporated into the revision.

Web3D Consortium Delivers X3D Conformance Tests for Reliable and Robust 3D Visualization

The Web3D Consortium today announced the X3D Conformance Testing Program for the X3D Interchange Profile. The Conformance Testing Program is intended to promote consistent and reliable implementations of the X3D specification by many vendors across multiple platforms. This consistency will help drive rapid evaluation, deployment and acceptance of the X3D standard for real-time interactive 3D visualization.

Using "plug in free" X3D technology in Demicron's WireFusion, NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory's PlanetQuest web site is providing visitors with a unique opportunity to interactively explore the Milky Way galaxy. Product Visualization Services worked with NASA to create a platform-independent interactive 3D visualization and multimedia "3D Guide to the Galaxy" that can be navigated in real-time over the Web.
