1.	Announcement.

The Web3D Consortium membership and Board of Directors have unanimously
endorsed advancement of the proposed text for X3D version 4.0 Architecture
19775-1 Draft International Specification (DIS) to ISO/IEC JTC 1. The
International Standards Organization (ISO) and International
Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) are the controlling authorities for Joint
Technical Committee (JTC) 1 which is responsible for this formal
standardization process.

X3D version 4.0 follows a long and steady path of standardization, reaching
all the way back to the Virtual Reality Modeling Language (VRML) standard in
1997. Balloting by ISO/IEC JTC 1 national standards bodies is the next step
in the process, and is expected to take place this summer.

2.	Mantis technical issues.

We are now down to 9 remaining editorial issues for X3D4.0 DIS resolution.
Specification editors Dick and Don are putting finishing touches on this
document, in Web3D Consortium github archives, and preparing the formal
submission to ISO/IEC.

Issues and comments we discussed today:

a.	Mantis 1336, X3D4 Lighting component, 17.4.2 EnvironmentLight -
Khronos glTF extension for image based lighting

https://www.web3d.org/member-only/mantis/view.php?id=1336

https://www.web3d.org/specifications/X3Dv4Draft/ISO-IEC19775-1v4-CD1/Part01/
components/lighting.html#EnvironmentLight

Michalis or Dick, can you please confirm whether or not this is part of glTF
2.0 PAS submission to ISO. If so we will include it, otherwise it is
deferred to X3D4.1.

b.	Mantis 1292, Layering component, numbering of z order of layers in
LayerSet

https://www.web3d.org/member-only/mantis/view.php?id=1292

https://www.web3d.org/specifications/X3Dv4Draft/ISO-IEC19775-1v4-CD1/Part01/
components/layering.html#LayerSet

Numbering schemes for layers in LayerSet now seem pretty closely aligned to
HTML/CSS z order. Nicholas will take one last close look on this.

3.	Next steps.

We continue pursuing issues with due diligence, and are excited to be this
close to delivery to ISO/IEC.

Have fun with X3D4! 8)

all the best, Don
