Two or three times each year, the Web3D Consortium produces an
X3D Showcase DVD for outreach to members and interested individuals.

We are now doing a regular refresh of the existing X3D Showcase DVD
in anticipation of several outreach events (OGC, IITSEC) in December.
We hope to have updates complete by mid November. NPS plans on
performing the production here in Monterey. We are also currently
looking for a donor to help pay for reproduction costs.

Fortunately this is all in version control in the Sourceforge project
for X3D, so updates are pretty easy to accomplish. In particular
_we need each Web3D company to provide an updated version of their work_.

We are also happy to include new work by Web3D members. What would you
like to distribute? We hope to add a section there for the Korea Web3D
Chapter, for example.

For non-members on the x3d-public mailing list: if you would like to
join Web3D Consortium to take advantage of this outreach opportunity,
great. Membership is possible as an individual professional or as
an organization, we will be happy to have your participation. Anita
Havele can answer any questions you might have. Details online at
http://www.web3d.org/membership/join

Next: what other work is coming up, and how members can contribute.

We'd like to have a Web3D volunteer to coordinate this important effort.
Coordination basically means to track that everything gets updated
by the originators or their users. This is also an excellent way for you
to learn what is happening in the Web3D community of companies, academics
and professionals.

Also please advise if you are interested in participating in occasional
tests the X3D Showcase. Skill set is pretty simple, one or more of the
following:
- access to Web and email
- subversion updates
- minor html editing

There is plenty of good documentation available, and it gets better each time
we refresh the showcase.

Thanks for considering this important resource. It is a great rehearsal
for our outreach efforts and greatly appreciated by the Web3D community.

all the best, Don
