As first part of our AR/VR Framework we, the Fraunhofer IGD, is releasing a beta of our desktop/standalone- player for OSX, Windows and Linux (almost) to the public. Since we use a superset of X3D as an application description language, this player should be able to process most of the available X3D data.
Fraunhofer IGD would like to ask the x3d/vrml community members to test the player/installer on different machines and x3d data-sets and please give feadback in the forums. The goal is to find the biggest bugs and the best linux-distributions for everybody in the first cycle. Afterwards IGD is going to release the missing AR/VR modules and parts of the framework.
About the license: Unfortunately we can not opensource all parts (yet). However: one of the biggest and most interesting parts is already open-source with a LGPL OpenSG license. There will be free but unsupported binary releases for non-commercial use only. Commercial packages will be available with a different license model.
