CAD/CAM models delivered as X3D content
A web based application offers browsing access to the content of STEP (ISO 10303) CAD files. 3D solid models included in the STEP exchange files are translated into X3D content and delivered in XML encoding for viewing by X3D viewers. Combined with the common capability of commercial CAD applications to export to the neutral STEP format, this gives a pathway to generate X3D content with the modeling methods of CAD applications. The web based browsing of STEP exchange file content is a demonstration of integrating 3D content with other information content delivered over the web.
