H3D API is an open source touch-enabled (Haptic) C++ implementation of the X3D standard, with a userbase of over 850 users. The new version of H3D API takes several steps towards X3D compliance including support for PROTO nodes, IMPORT/EXPORT and OpenGL ElevationGrid and Fog rendering nodes. H3D API v1.4 also represents a significant increase in stability and ease-of-use, with a new configuration system.

Xj3D 1.0 Release Candidate 2 is now available. Xj3D is the X3D browser and toolkit based on Java and supporting OpenGL hardware acceleration. The RC2 includes an enhanced VRML/X3D converter - drop a file onto this to change a file into the X3D XML encoding. This includes upgrading VRML97 files. The development release also includes numerous bug fixes. The official 1.0 is planned by April 15th, 2006.

3dtest features an interview with Stephen Matsuba of Yumetech regarding the Xj3D X3D toolkit & browser. Xj3D is a complete high-performance application toolkit built in Java. It includes file loaders, animation and scripting components, as well as a native binary file reader that can significantly reduce file sizes and loading times. It also includes support for immersive devices such as CAVE devices, HMDs, and the Elumens dome and has extensions for rigid body physics, particle systems, clipping plans and abstract I/O.

RawKee is an X3D Exporter for Maya. The new RawKee v1.0 feature list includes support for HAnim, Multitextures, Script nodes, ECMAScripting, Sensor nodes, and export of all four Web3D Consortium encodings. RawKee provides the content author with an event routing user-interface through the X3D Interaction Editor. Quick animation preparation is also available for translation, scale, and rotation fields through the X3D Animation Editor. Finally, complex HAnim character rig setup is made a breeze for export through the use of RawKee’s X3D Character Editor. Additional experimental features are available as well. These features include the proposed xj3d rigid body physics and the xj3d IODevice components. The *.x3db binary export feature is provided by the X3DSerializer class developed at Yumetech, Inc.
Binary installation files for RawKee 1.0 are available for OS X and Maya 6.0, 6.5, and 7.0. Windows binaries are available for Maya 4.5, 5.0, 6.0, 6.5, and 7.0. Linux binaries will be available in April 2006. Source code is available for all platforms.

MobiX3D is a mobile player for X3D and H-Anim content developed by the HCI Lab (http://hcilab.uniud.it) of the University of Udine, Italy. The rendering engine uses the OpenGL ES API for hardware accelerated rendering on PocketPC (using the Hybrid Rasteroid library), or devices such as the Dell Axim X50V (using the Intel 2700G graphics accelerator). The MobiX3D player currently supports a subset of the X3D Interactive profile and the full H-Anim standard with rendering support for transparency (alpha-blending), color and shading (wireframe, flat and gouraud shading supported),texturing, lighting, backface culling. The final goal of our project is to support the full X3D Interactive profile and the full H-Anim standard. A paper will be presented at the Web3D 2006 Symposium.

NSS X-Modeler is a software tool for building X3D virtual worlds with geometry shapes, text, images, and sound elements. The integrated design environment (design view, code view, and scene graph), visual editing and simple commands (drag-and-drop, copy-and-paste of X3D nodes & properties) enables developers and designers at different skill level to create powerful, standards-based X3D environments easily.
