IEEE CBMS 2006 (June 22 - 23, Salt Lake City, UT) provides an international forum for discussing the latest research in computational medicine. There is a call for papers for a new special track focused on issues and the latest findings in medical simulation. Training for medical skills traditionally relies on cadavers, animals, and patients. These have many limitations. Cadavers do not have the appropriate physiological response. Animals have the wrong anatomy, and their use can raise ethical concerns. Medical Simulation is proving to be a safe, effective alternative to traditional teaching methods for both team and individual training. X3D is playing a leading role. Paper summary submissions are due by Jan 31, 2006.

Chisel is a program for improving the quality, performance and reliability of virtual reality and simulation environments. The new v2.1 exports X3D code (VRML97 nodes names and fields should be the same as the X3D ones since it uses classic VRML .x3dv). Chisel offers authors a wide range of tools for working with VRML/X3D files: diagnostic tools for locating errors, cleaners for converting dangerous and cluttered code to safe and clean code, lossy and non lossy data reducers, file reorganizers, special effects and compression.
