In order to make the development of a VR application more accessible to non-VR experts and to reduce the time and cost of the development in general, there is a real need for methodologies and tools which will facilitate the design of a VR application. This Workshop on Methods and Tools for Designing VR applications aims at addressing these issues. It will be held in conjunction with the VSMM2005 on Oct 3, 2005, in Ghent, Belgium. This is a call for paper submissions due by 8th of August, 2005.

The new Web3D Consortium organizational structure and membership policies have been posted. A summary document describes the new organization, procedures and processes. It also gives an introduction to the Members Agreement, Bylaws and IP Guidelines as well as some working processes and details not contained in the legal Member Agreement document.
The new Member Agreement clearly defines benefits and participation rights for each level of membership. It also includes the Consortium By-Laws, and Intellectual Property Rights policy.
The Consortium is an open organization that any interested entity may join. A number of membership tiers provide well-defined privileges. In addition, the Consortium outreaches to the wider industry via a series of widening circles of participation.

Entries for the X3D modeling contest to produce high-fidelity models of actual diamonds are due July 20th. Contestants will use the basic 3D geometry of a round brilliant diamond and inspect a reasonable facsimile, then model the diamond in full detail and render it using X3D in a 3D browser of their choice. If you are looking for examples of 3D modeled diamonds, check out TurboSquid. Grand prize is a $3000 diamond gift certificate.
