Jewel of IndraJewel of Indra is the first adults only 3D chat community situated in immersive VRML and X3D 3D environments. The underlying premise of Jewel of Indra is geared toward helping people feel comfortable with their sexual exploration. Beautiful artwork, an easy to use interface and international availability makes it easy for people to connect around the globe for flirting, companionship, thought-provoking chat, and play.  This is a portal to all things adult, sexual and naughty. The site is a blend of Classic VRML with X3D extensions as well as some games within the community that are entirely X3D.

This tutorial shows how to use the SAI for changing and building X3D environments.  It provides examples of modifying a X3D environment from outside the environment, similar to VRML97’s EAI code, and examples of modifying a X3D environment from inside the environment, similar to VRML97’s JSAI code.  Topics include: How to add a 3D window to your application, how to handle URLs, how to change a field value (e.g. color), how to create simulations dynamically node by node, how to listen for field changes so that your application can respond to what’s going on in the 3D simulation, sending messages to nodes, searching the scenegraph and using time sensors.

In this virtual tour the user is able to navigate through actual rooms in Taylor Hall, an academic building on the campus of The College of Wooster that contains the Computer Science, Mathematics, and Physics departments.  They have been modeled in 3D using the X3D format. To move from room to room the user simply clicks on the doorknob of a door to enter the next room. Plaques hanging next to doorways links to faculty and department web pages.

Media Machines, the developer of the FLUX platform for enabling X3D real-time 3D communication has acquired Virtock Technologies, the developer of the Vizx3D X3D authoring and publishing tool for the Web. Future versions of Vizx3D will be integrated with the Flux platform to provide an end-to-end industrial-strength, open development platform that competes effectively on price and features with the other real-time 3D tools for creating games, animations, presentations, training applications, web sites, and immersive environments.

FeViaduct is a general purpose structural analysis program for the finite element method. It has rod and beam elements in 2 and 3 dimensions. For plane stress and strain analysis it has linear, quadratic and cubic triangle and quadrilateral elements. For 3D analysis it has linear, quadratic and cubic Lagrangian and Serendipity elements for tetrahedra and bricks. The recent v1.1 add export of 3D animated VRML or X3D files that demonstrate the displacement results of the finite element analysis.

The Digital Universe is a network of immersive, advertising-free portals. It uses the ManyOne Browser, derived from the Mozilla browser code which intends to provide Playstation class mutlimedia over the web.  The browser currently supports HTML, Flash, Shockwave, and X3D (via Flux) for interactive 3D immersive content.

Over 70 international delegates are attending the four day Web3D 2005 Symposium at the Centre for Advanced Software Technology to hear more about the latest technical advances in 3D technologies from leading experts such as keynote speaker Martin Reddy of Pixar Animation Studios (Toy Story and Monsters Inc.). Symposium organizer Professor Nigel John: “Some really exciting developments in 3D technologies including web services, programming languages and mobile applications, are being described at the Symposium and the hands-on tutorial streams. 3D is a powerful and fast growing format for web technology, it has so many applications, from being able to display your product in 3D on your website to being used to aid surgical procedures, to the kind of animation that we all enjoy in films by Pixar and other leading computer animation houses”.
