<p>CAD/CAM models delivered as X3D content <br /> A web based application offers browsing access to the content of STEP (ISO 10303) CAD files. 3D solid models included in the STEP exchange files are translated into X3D content and delivered in XML encoding for viewing by X3D viewers. Combined with the common capability of commercial CAD applications to export to the neutral STEP format, this gives a pathway to generate X3D content with the modeling methods of CAD applications. The web based browsing of STEP exchange file content is a demonstration of integrating 3D content with other information content delivered&#8230;

<p><a href="http://www.igd.fhg.de" title="http://www.igd.fhg.de">Fraunhofer IGD</a>, recently announced its <a href="http://www.x3dom.org" title="www.x3dom.org">X3DOM project</a>. A test-environment to evaluate and evolve a DOM-based HTML/X3D integration model. </p> <p>X3DOM is an experimental open source runtime, implemented in JavaScript and WebGL, which allows to inline X3D content in (X)HTML pages.&nbsp; It performs the current <a href="http://www.w3.org/TR/html5/no.html#declarative-3d-scenes" title="http://www.w3.org/TR/html5/no.html#declarative-3d-scenes">HTML5 specification for declarative 3D content</a> and allows including X3D elements as part of any HTML5 DOM tree. An official release will be announced soon. </p> <p>This model is based on ideas and code developed by Philip Taylor from University of Cambridge and provides a minimal X3D-runtime in JavaScript. <p>SenseGraphics announces a new release of their open source X3D browser, H3DViewer, and the C++ X3D development platform H3DAPI. The H3D products are dual license, open source and commercial, cross-platform (Windows, OSX, Linux) and are used by many companies, research institutes and universities for development of multi-modal applications such as medical simulators. It addressed a wide range of topics covering 3D hypermedia on the web.
