The new SimVentive  toolkit gives designers of instructional (“serious”) games the ability to create training simulations and to define the behavior of characters and objects that populate those simulations, all without programming.  It includes a Scenario Player, Scenario Editor, and Scenario Debugger. The Rapid User Interface provides a palette of drag and drop user interface widgets.  The “3D widget” renders 3D images using the Java 3D library and uses Xj3D to import X3D and VRML 2.0 files.  The widget can receive method invocations to change the view point.  The widget can notify the rest of the SimVentive application, via sending an “event” object, when the user clicks on a named 3D object. In addition to UI, the toolkit also speeds and simplifies the creation of simulation objects and simulation behavior.

This software robot demo using the open source Seamless3d shows all the steps to import a static model and convert it into a dynamic single skin mesh animated model. Once the build nodes have been set up they can be re-used to import any static model that has the same basic shape.  Seamless3d v2.117 makes animation simpler. Interpolator nodes and active script instructions are now added on the fly when ever the user poses a part while the control panel for animation is open. Because Seamless3d can run scripts live, animation sequences can be created in a matter of seconds. The imported example file made by the demo can be exported from Seamless3d to a wide range of options including H-Anim nodes encoded in XML, X3D,  VRML classic or VRML97.

Web3D Games workshop at the Web3D Symposium 2007 (15-18 April 2007 Perugia Italy) aims to provide a forum fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and cooperation between academia and industry to pinpoint and discuss state of the art and future technologies, theories, tools and scenarios of use, that are related to Web 3D games. Both research and applications papers are of interest to the workshop. Authors are invited to submit their work for review by the international Program Committee.
