Water treatment systems visualization and training

Epcon has developed its own treatment technology (Compact Flotation Unit system) which is especially suitable for removing hydrocarbons, hydrophobic substances, aromatic compounds and small particles from produced water.  Several combined processes, including gas flotation and induced centrifugal inertia forces, act on the fluid components of different specific gravities. The small oil droplets are made to agglomerate and coalesce, facilitating separation from the water. The separation process is aided by internal devices in the chamber and by a simultaneous gas flotation effect caused by the release of residual gas from the water. On occasions, process optimisation can be achieved by the introduction of external gas and/or specific flocculating chemicals.
Epcon needed a intuitive way to explain the complex process that is taking place inside the filtering tanks as well as a system to train operators on its use.

Using Octaga Professional and X3D, Epcon developed a detailed simulation of their Compact Flotation Unit (CFU) system that can be used for both training and sales.  For training, an operator can see the consequences of adjusting the valves and controls of the system to introduce gases or chemicals to optimize performance.
Sales staff can use the presentation to interactively explain the otherwise complex functionality to new clients.
