Octaga Exporter with real time sun-shadow simulation

The former Airport of Oslo, Fornebu, now a national focus area for knowledge-based innovation is currently undergoing several new building projects. The township of Baerum, which administrates these projects, required a tool visualizing sun and shadow conditions for the area.

Together with Ramboel mapping Octaga developed a sun-shadow simulator integrated in Octaga Exporter for Autodesk 3D studio Max. Users can specify sun-shadow receivers and occluders from within the 3D studio max GUI, specifying the exact time, date, longitude and latitude of the exported simulation. The export contains a complete X3D scene with realistic real time sun-shadow simulations embedded with a GUI enabling a 24-hour simulation of any date.

“This is a great tool for architects, city planners and politicians” says PhD Pedro Ardila, special advisor in City Planning, Baerum Municipality.
