Fraunhofer demonstrates largest Stereo-Display to run full X3D Content
The Fraunhofer IGD provides a new cluster application deployment solution which allows X3D content to run on computer clusters without changes. An application developer can now build a high level interactive 3D application utilizing the full immersive profile of the ISO standard X3D including PointingSensors and Scripting.
Octaga Exporter with real time sun-shadow simulation
The former Airport of Oslo, Fornebu, now a national focus area for knowledge-based innovation is currently undergoing several new building projects. The township of Baerum, which administrates these projects, required a tool visualizing sun and shadow conditions for the area. Using X3D based visualization tools, Octaga offered a solution that Baerum could use to their advantage.
Bitmanagements BS Contact 3D Engine to support Collada
Bitmanagement will showcase at this years computer graphics premiere event - Siggraph, their newly developed support of the popular COLLADA 3D exchange format in their web based 3D rendering engine BS Contact. FMC Technologies needed a way to stand out from the myriad of exhibitors and draw people to their booth at the worlds biggest oil and gas exhibition the OTC07 in Houston. FMC produces complex subsea oil and gas equipment weighing 1000’s of tons and needed to show how their products look and operate.

EADS Innovation Works metadata management system based on X3D
While the tool chain and data management is very strict in later phases of aircraft design, there is a plurality of tools and data formats in preliminary development. This allows greater flexibility and creativity, but is hard to handle. EADS challenge was to develop a concept how to set up a metadata management system, which allows consolidation of information from heterogeneous data sources for collaboration, authoring, searches and easy reusability.

You have some nice 3D models but you are missing one major thing; without being able to touch the objects, you don’t really get the feeling of presence, immersion and control that you wish. The problem is you have no or little programming experience but would love to add haptics to your virtual world. Your problem is the complex programming needed to be able to render both graphics and haptics in the same scene and then make sure that the visual and haptics experience agrees.
